Hit-and-run drivers crush farmer, street trader to death in Ondo

A yet-to-be-identified man was reportedly found lying in the middle of the road after he was run over by a hit and run driver at Bolorunduro junction in Ondo East local government area of Ondo State.

The unidentified man was crushed to death around 11:30 pm, on Sunday, when an unregistered jeep belonging to Customs and a motorcycle killed the victim.

A source said that the accident was caused by overspeeding on the part of the driver, saying the unidentified driver of the Lexus jeep was travelling along Ondo/Akure road when he allegedly hit the victim riding his motorcycle on the way from his farm.

He said the Federal Road Safety Corps Patrol team visited the scene of the incident and deposited the corpse at the State General hospital morgue in Ondo.

In a similar incident, a middle-aged woman was reportedly killed in Ondo town when a car rammed into a house and crushed the occupant of the house to death.

The deceased, Seun who was a foodseller, was said to be preparing noodles with eggs in front of the house when the car rammed into her shop.

According to an eyewitness, the driver of the vehicle was coming from the Yaba area of the town when he lost control of the vehicle and rammed into the woman’s food stand, killing her instantly.

“The victim was through with selling around 11 pm, she was washing her pots and other cooking utensils when the car rammed into her and crushed her to death.

“The driver of the car rammed into the house where she used to prepare indomie with eggs for people to buy. The car owner took to his heels after the incident happened.”

According to the source, the boy ran away, but his house had been located by people in the kingdom.

Confirming the incident, Police at Yaba Divisional police said the investigation is ongoing to arrest the culprit.
