Gunmen set police station ablaze in Imo, kill 2

GUNMEN on Saturday attacked Umuguma Police Division in Owerri West Local Government Area of Imo State, setting the station on fire. 

The Imo State police command, however, in a statement said the attack was successfully repelled. 

The Police Public Relations Officer of Imo State Police Command, Owerri, CSP Michael Abatham, said this Saturday, while reacting to an attack by the gunmen. 

He denied a report doing the rounds that two police officers were killed during the attack.

The police spokesman confirmed that two civilians lost their lives during the attack and not police officers as earlier said. 

Sunday Tribune gathered the police formation was set on fire with two policemen slaughtered. 

The incident occurred Saturday morning when the gunmen stormed the divisional headquarters and threw explosives on the building. Meanwhile, the House of the president of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, a socio-cultural organisation for the Igbos, Professor George Obiozor has been gutted by fire. 

The house located in East Local Government Area of Imo State got burnt on Saturday morning. When contacted, the Public Relations Officer, CSP Michael Abatham, said the command had received the information and commenced investigation into the incident
