Gunmen kidnap Catholic priest in Benue

A Catholic priest of Otukpo Diocese area of Benue, Rev. Fr. Anthony Adikwu has been reportedly kidnapped by suspected gunmen.

Rev Father is the parish priest of St. Margaret’s Parish, Ajegbe Awume, in Ohimini Local Government Area of the State.

According to a local who simply identified himself as Sunny informed our correspondent that some gunmen came to the Awume community around 10 pm and went straight to the church premises where they whisked the priest away.

Sunny said, “Yesterday (Thursday) night at about 10pm, some gunmen stormed Ajegbe Awume, Ohimini Benue State, the kidnappers went straight to the church premises and kidnapped the Rev. father in charge of St. Margaret Parish.”

Confirming the abduction, the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Catherine Anene said that the command was working towards rescuing the priest.

“The information got to us this morning (Friday) and we are working on it,” PPRO said.
