Gunmen invade Imo communities, kill 3

Published by

Suspected gunmen on Tuesday invaded Imo communities and killed three persons.

Our correspondent learned that while two persons were killed at the Orogwe community in Owerri West LGA of Imo State, another one was killed at the Ndegwu community, also in the Owerri West LGA, by the same attackers.

An eyewitness said that the attackers were armed robbers who invaded the communities.

It would be recalled that on Monday during a sit-at-home compliance, the attackers struck in the same community and snatched away a vehicle belonging to a former Enugu Psychiatrist Director.

The eyewitness also disclosed that the two communities have been living in constant fear for some time now.

He further stated that such incidents have become a daily occurrence in the community.

Responding to the incident, the Imo State Police Command Public Relations Officer, Henry Okoye, said that he is yet to receive an official report on the above cases.

He mentioned that while crimes cannot be completely eradicated, the Command is committed to significantly reducing them in the state.

Furthermore, he assured that if any offences are committed, the offenders will be detected, apprehended, and made to face the full force of the law.

He stated, “The aim of the Command is to drastically reduce crime in Imo and ensure that offenders are detected, apprehended, and made to face the full force of the law.”

He emphasised the need to enlighten the public on the importance of partnering with the police, especially by providing actionable intelligence and information.
