Gunmen bomb police division, free detainees in Imo

Published by

GUNMEN on Thursday attacked the Police Area Headquarters at Dike Nafai in Ideato South Local Government Area of Imo State, setting it ablaze.

Following the attack, undisclosed number of detainees were freed by the hoodlums.

The gunmen stormed the station in large numbers and bombed it with explosive devices.

The explosives destroyed the administrative office, the Divisional Police Officer’s office, and the reception desk.

Chairman of Ideato South LGA Interim Management Committee, Pastor Bede Ikeaka, while reacting to the incident, expressed shock.

Nigerian Tribune gathered that some of the detainees had been caught by local vigilantes in the area.

However, when contacted, the state police command spokesman, CSP Michael Abatham, said that the hoodlums were repelled from carrying out the attack on the Police Area Headquarters by police personnel dispatched to the area.
