Gunmen attack Soludo’s supporters, others, kill three, burn three vehicles

The National Convener of Youth Earnestly Seek Soludo (YESS) and a staunch campaigner of the Anambra State governorship candidate of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), Dr Nelson Omenugha was on Sunday evening attacked at Afor-Nobi market in the Idemili Local Government Area by gunmen.

Eyewitnesses have it that three persons lost their lives in the attack while a Toyota Hilux owned by Dr Omenugha and two others were set ablaze instantly.

Confirming the incident in a statement, the State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Ikenga Tochukwu, said the State Commissioner of Police, Mr Tony Olofu “has detailed Police Crack Team led by Assistant Commissioner of Police on-the-spot assessment to the scene of where yet to be identified gunmen, who violently attacked unsuspecting members of the public at about 7:40 pm on 26/09/2021 along Afor, nNobi Market.”

He said the team “is to identify and apprehend the hoodlums and bring them to book.”

According to him, “preliminary investigations reveal on above mentioned time and date that the attackers using a Toyota Sienna vehicle and a shuttle bus shot and attacked the unsuspecting members on transit along Afor Nnobi Market. The victims were rushed to the hospital and later confirmed dead by a medical doctor on duty.

“The victims were later identified as one Johnbosco Ojokwu ‘M’ 33yrs, Rapuluchukwu Ugoeze ‘M’ 30yrs and Chukwuemeka Nwokebagu ‘M’ 31yrs.

“The hoodlums also set ablaze one shuttle bus, one Toyota Sienna and a Toyota Hilux.

“The CP describes the attack as unfortunate and calls on anyone with useful information to aid the ongoing investigation to please come forward. Confidentiality is guaranteed.”
