Guber poll: Don’t heat up polity in Imo, group urges candidates

Less than three months to the November 11th Governorship election in Imo, the 17 candidates of political parties have been advised to concentrate on the issue based and not to hit up polity in the State.

The group under the auspices of Imo Youths For A New Nigeria Nigeria urged the governorship candidates to avoid things that would escalate the security condition of the State.

The founder and spokesperson of the group, Chidiebube Okeoma in a statement issued on Tuesday in Owerri, said that issues on insecurity, housing deficit, infrastructural decay, education, tourism, health and growth of the economy should preoccupy the campaign activities of the 17 political parties and their candidates.

He said: “Tension was already high in the state, therefore, the political players should intentionally avoid doing things that would aggravate the problem of insecurity bedeviling the state”.

Okeoma said that the people of the state are interested in hearing from the candidates on how the persisting insecurity, infrastructural decay, housing deficits, and the educational decline of the state would be addressed.

He said that the state electorate is not interested in petty discussions and propaganda, adding that the condition of the state required a quality hand who would kick the ground running from the first day in office.

He said: “As a group, Imo Youths For A New Nigeria urges the 17 Governorship candidates to try to de-escalate the tension in the state. Their campaign topics should bother on pertinent things affecting the state.

He reminded them that Imo people want to hear from those who want to be their governor and how they can solve the insecurity in the state adding that they also need to hear how the issue of infrastructure and housing deficits, education and health would be solved.

He said: “The Governorship candidates should avoid going personal on each other. They should avoid petty issues and concentrate on quality discussions that would address the Imo issues. The state is going through a lot and doesn’t need needs conversations and campaign activities that are not issue based”.
