Govt seeks residents’ collaboration to tackle insecurity in Oyo

The Oyo State Government has called on residents to join it in collaborating with security agencies to tackle all forms of insecurity and crimes in the state.

The government made this known during the handing over of brand new patrol vans donated to the Oyo State Police Command (Felele Division) and Oyo State Security Network (Amotekun) in Ibadan South East Local Government by a philanthropist, Oludamilola Ala on Thursday.

The patrol vans were handed over to the Felele Divisional Police Officer (DPO), Ms Sena Itabiy, and the leader of the Amotekun Corps in the local government at Mapo Hall, Ibadan.

Chairman of Ibadan South-East Local Government, Emmanuel Alawode, said the local and state governments are expecting more public-spirited individuals to assist them in the area of security and governance, adding that the government alone cannot do it all.

“Security is one major thing the governor has taken very seriously and if you look around and if you look at Ibadan South East Local Government, you will see indeed that it has been a great challenge for us.

“This gesture will enable us to encourage the security agencies including Police and Amotekun to do more in nipping crime in the bud,” he said.

The donor, Ala, who spoke through a representative noted that the gesture was made to complement the efforts of the state government in beefing up the security architecture of the state.

Also speaking during the event, the Chairman of the Oyo Pacesetter Transport Services, Dare Adeleke, said that: “Everything is not the responsibility of the government. We must try as much as possible to assist the government in any way. I implore other residents to emulate him.”

The local government chairman also donated and handed over eight motorcycles to other security agencies in his domain including the Oodua People’s Congress (OPC).

Dignitaries at the event include Governor Seyi Makinde’s ally, Seye Famojuro; Vice-Chairman of Ibadan South East LG, Teslim Ogundeji and among other Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) leaders and faithful.
