Nigerian governments have been admonished to address the scourge of insecurity, poverty and poor health delivery more intensively, as failure to properly check the menace further places the country on the verge of chaos and total collapse.
The admonition was given by Rotarian Abdul Rahman Olapade, at his inauguration as 10th President of Rotary Club of Ibadan City Central District 9125 recently, pointing out that no nation can progress as her citizens suffer abject neglect.
Olapade expressed dismay that service to humanity is no longer a virtue, considering that people in positions of power think less of common men, as they desperately chase after the acquisition of wealth.
He declared that the special focus of Rotary Club would be to empower women and girl-child, promoting initiatives on diversity, equity and inclusion, as well as further ensuring that polio is permanently eradicated in Nigeria and Africa.
The Rotary President reminded that “the thing that lies at the bottom of positive change is service to fellow beings,” thus emphasizing his organization’s constant resolve to impact positively on humanity.
He commended all his predecessors for carving an enviable identity for the Rotary Club of Ibadan City Central District over the years and declared intention to sustain and improve on the aura of service to humanity, built all along.
He then disclosed that his club would focus on basic education and literacy, maternal and child health, disease prevention and treatment, as well as peace and conflict prevention and resolution.
Other areas of the club’s focus, according to Olapade are economic and community development, water sanitation and hygiene and donation to the Rotary Foundation to support polio eradication.
He then called on all members and well-meaning individuals across the country not to relent on their contributions and support to ensure that the lofty objectives are met.
