GoHealth: Respite for poor, vulnerable individuals in Gombe as BHPF continues to record success story

The Basic Healthcare Provision Fund, (BHPF) of the Gombe State Government has begun to have a positive impact on the lives of the poor and vulnerable individuals across the state.

The story of Sunday John, a resident of Popandi Village in Gwandum Ward of Shongom Local Government Area is just one out of the numerous success stories of the fund.

A Pastor of a church in Kwarra village of Billiri Local Government Area, Sunday John had been having a recurrent swelling of his scrotum, which he sustained during a football competition some years ago.

The injury was further compounded when he got involved in a motor accident and since then, Sunday John had been facing serious difficulties due to the pains in his scrotum and the prospect of getting proper medical attention kept dimming by the day due to lack of money.

Being one amongst the over 25,000 poor and vulnerable people identified under the Basic Healthcare Provision Fund (equity programme), Sunday John approached the Primary Healthcare Centre in Gwandum, Shongom Local Government Area of the state.

He was thereafter referred to General Hospital Kaltungo where doctors conducted series of tests and discovered a left inguinal hernia.

Successful correctional surgery was carried out by the Doctors at General Hospital, Kaltungo and today, Sunday John is back to his feet hale and hearty.

In an interview with our correspondent, the ever smiling Sunday John thanked Governor Inuwa Yahaya’s administration for initiating the programme and prayed the Almighty God to bless the governor, for his care and concern for the poor,

He declared that “The programme is without any aorta of discrimination; I think the initiative is the first of its kind in the state because until now, I was not aware of any administration that introduced such a lofty idea.”

He also called on the government to continue to look into the plight of the poor and vulnerable as it affects other areas of human endeavour.
