Getting the best from your work (IV)

Published by

CONTINUED FROM LAST WEEK

We have been discussing the issue of work. Work will have to do with relating to people, whether virtually or person to person, so one has to develop good people skills to get the best from work. For example, you cannot be very effective in your work if your communication skills are not up to par. Effective communication is indispensable to getting the best from your work.

Speak well, listen well. Write well.

“Let your speech at all times be gracious (pleasant and winsome), seasoned [as it were] with salt, [so that you may never be at a loss] to know how you ought to answer anyone [who puts a question to you].” Colossians 4:6 Amp.

“From a wise mind comes wise speech; the words of the wise are persuasive.” Proverbs 16.23.

Speak to be understood.

“To effectively communicate, we must realize that we are all different in the way we perceive the world and use this understanding as a guide to our communication with others.” Tony Robbins

Be a voice and not an echo (an authority).

Be worth listening to each time.

Never speak casually, carelessly or foolishly. Always speak thoughtfully. Never engage in gossip or slander. No falsehood, error or mistakes but accurate speech. Be known as a courteous person.

If you will be respected and honored at your work cultivate the habit of always under promising and over delivering on assignments/projects. Never miss targets. Meet deadlines before they are due. Be punctual and keep to time.

If you are employed make your boss look good publicly and privately (without being a sycophant) so when he moves up he will move you with him.

Daily increase your value:

–    Improve and be seen to improve daily.

–    Your worth, influence and respect is heavily dependent on your value.

–    More value will lead to more respect, more influence, more power, more appreciation, more compensation (money, rewards, promotion, recognition, etc.).

–    Grow your value. Learn something new about your chosen field daily.

– Be a plus and not a negative factor/force.

– Let your input save time, money and effort and provoke ease, speed and outstanding results.

– Work on being accurate and precise – getting it right the first time and every time.

– Be a quicker learner.

– Get all the qualifications/certifications needed in your field.

– Be emotionally stable – avoid and deal decisively with negative emotions such as anger, moodiness, fear, depression, jealousy, apathy, anxiety, etc.

– Daily ask God for and confess wisdom, favour and boldness.

– Let your work draw attention to God.

“Work is God-ordained, and it allows you to use the skills, intelligence, and experience that He has gifted you. In Genesis, we see God working to create the earth. We also see God put Adam in charge of the Garden of Eden to take care of it. Additionally, God set the ultimate example for us by resting on the seventh day. Our lives aren’t meant to revolve around work, they’re meant to revolve around Christ, and work is one of the ways we can bring Him glory.” Sarah Long

“Let your light so shine before men that they may see your moral excellence and your praiseworthy, noble, and good deeds and recognize and honor and praise and glorify your Father Who is in heaven.” Matthew 5.16
