The Kaduna State Government, Governor Uba Sani, has said that the gas plant will bring relief to motorists in the state.
In response to the challenging times following the removal of fuel subsidies, the Kaduna State Government inaugurated the first-ever Liquid/Compressed Natural Gas (L-CNG) plant in Kakau village, along the Kaduna/Abuja highway. The plant is set to provide an alternative source of fuel for motorists in the state and beyond.
During the commissioning ceremony, a representative of the Kaduna State Governor, Uba Sani, emphasised the timely nature of the project and its potential to offer an alternative energy source. Ibrahim Hamza, the Honorable Commissioner of Works and Infrastructure represented the governor.
“In an era marked by volatile fuel prices and currency fluctuations in the global market, Greenville LNG presents a robust solution in the form of LCNG,” noted Governor Sani’s representative. “This change is not only embraced but enthusiastically welcomed in Kaduna. It promises to bring not only economic growth but also a revival to various Kaduna-based industries, including textiles, machinery, steel, aluminum, as well as the automotive and oil and gas sectors.”
The provision of a stable power source through the L-CNG gas hub is of paramount importance for these small and medium-sized businesses and industries, according to Governor Sani. The development of these hubs is poised to address Kaduna’s pressing need for energy security.
“This welcoming change is not limited to businesses alone; it also extends to the transportation sector, where a significant number of keke riders ply the roads of Kaduna daily,” he added. For these riders, LCNG represents a cost-effective alternative to high-priced PMS (Premium Motor Spirit), offering financial relief and reduced stress. Additionally, it promotes ecological peace, as CNG is renowned for its eco-friendliness and emission of fewer harmful pollutants, ensuring the safety of both citizens and the environment.
Inaugurating the event, the Chief Executive Officer of Greenville, Lauren Maubre, highlighted the cost-effective nature of LNG and CNG as alternatives to conventional fuels, leading to a 15-20% reduction in petroleum and gas oil consumption.
He also pointed out the significant impact of Greenville LNG’s efforts on the economic empowerment of approximately two million KEKE NAPEP riders across Nigeria. By providing an affordable alternative to conventional fuels, the project aims to improve the economic well-being of these riders and their families while mitigating the impact of fuel subsidy changes on the general public.
