FRSC inaugurates road safety clubs in 10 Anambra schools

The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Anambra Sector Command, has inaugurated Road Safety Clubs in ten schools in the state.

Our reporter learnt that the initiative is aimed at inculcating road safety education and knowledge of road safety measures in pupils and students to achieve safer roads for all.

Speaking during the event, the Sector Commander, Federal Road Safety Corps, Mr Adeoye Irelewuyi said that the clubs are the third tier in the administrative structure of the FRSC which is primarily focused on enlightenment on road safety measures to prevent accidents.

Mr. Irelewuyi urged the clubs to add value to the enlightenment campaign assuring that personnel of FRSC will be sent to schools to teach club members and students on road safety measures using the highway code road safety manual.

Also speaking, the Coordinator of the Anambra State Special Marshals of the FRSC; Mr. Patrick Esumai revealed that ninety-five percent of road accidents are caused by human error, noting that inaugurating the club will help in teaching the children early enough the road safety measures starting from the family and schools, as efforts are geared towards having the club in all schools in the state.

The Chairman, Anambra State Universal Basic Education Board, ASUBEB, Dr. Vera Nwadinaobi represented by the Board Secretary, Mrs. Ebele Mgbemena commended the efforts of the FRSC and Special Marshals in inaugurating the club, which she noted has made the young ones stakeholders in road safety, urging FRSC to follow-up on the progress of the clubs.

Students from various schools who spoke during the event, including, Miss Excel Nwokoye of Federal Science and Technical College Awka, Master Kosisochukwu Okafor of Living World Comprehensive Secondary School, Umudim Nnewi and Master Reginald Onaku of Trinity Secondary School, Onitsha expressed happiness for being members of the club and emphasized that it will help them bring about difference as it concerns road safety.
