Anambra State Command of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), said a fatal traffic crash that occurred, on Wednesday, by Obinetiti Awuzu at Nteje-Awka expressway in Oyi Local Government Areas of the state, claimed the lives of two women, while four others were injured.
According to an eyewitness report, the crash was caused by wrongful overtaking which led to a loss of control.
Confirming the accident in a statement, Ag, Sector Public Education Officer, for the FRSC, Anambra State Command, DRC Margaret B Onabe, said the crash was between two vehicles, driven by an unidentified driver of 1722 Mercedes with vehicle registration number: BZR101XP, a commercial truck and an unidentified driver of a Sienna with registration number: ENU 310 CE, a private car.
She said ten persons, six male adults and four female adults, were involved in the crash.
The four male adults in the vehicles sustained varying degrees of injuries and were rushed to Chaira Hospital, Awkuzu for treatment, and two other female adults were confirmed dead by the doctor on duty and their bodies deposited at Wisdom Mortuary Nteje by the FRSC Rescue team from Nteje Unit Command.
She added that the FRSC rescue team was on the ground managing the traffic caused by the crash and effort was being made to tow the crash vehicles out of the road to allow for free flow of traffic.
The Sector Commander Anambra State Corps Commander Adeoye Irelewuyi, wished the injured a quick recovery, just as he sent his condolences to the deceased families.
He urged Motorists to avoid wrongful overtaking, adding that they should only overtake when it is safe to do so and obey traffic rules and regulations always.
