Four kidnapped persons regain freedom after paying N5.5 million ransom in Niger

Four persons who were kidnapped last Friday in Batati Village, Lavun local government area of Niger State have regained their freedom after they allegedly paid about N5.5million in ransom.

One of the victims who spoke with Tribune Online in an interview, Mr Kolade Olushola said they were released at about 7:30 pm on Sunday.

He added that others in the custody of the bandits include Bosede, Mallam Aliyu who also owns a shop by the roadside and a tractor engineer, noting that the engineer who was driving a Hilux van was shot because of the reflection of the headlamp of his vehicle on the bandits.

The victims who were blindfolded stayed in the custody of the bandits for three days until their release.

The engineer was said to have paid about N2 million while Mr Olushola and Bosede paid N3 million. Mallam Aliyu was also said to have paid N500,000.

It was also learnt that security operatives have been patrolling the areas since the incident occurred last Friday with a view to arresting the hoodlums and bring them to justice.
