Foundation plans summer coaching for Ekiti children

A leading non-governmental organization for the development of children in Ekiti state, Tokunbo Ajila-Jakande Children Foundation (TAJ CF) has concluded plans for a summer coaching and movies session for school children in the state.

The founder, Mrs Tokunbo Ajila-Jakande in a statement made available to journalists said the gesture was in continuation of her deliberate efforts at putting smiles on the faces of indigent children in the state during the holiday.

It will be recalled that the foundation celebrated with over 250 children on this year’s Children’s Day to mark its fifth year anniversary.

She said schools will be closing for the summer by the end of July and the foundation deemed it fit to engage them in activities instead of having them roam the streets.

She said the summer package is in two legs, one for the youths ages 6 to 24 and the other for ages 10 to 15.

In the first leg, youths will be taught the basic Microsoft word programme.

Mrs Jakande said, “having worked in the private and public sector,  I have seen that most industrial training and NYSC students do not know how to write a simple letter not to talk of writing minutes of a meeting. In view of this, emphasis will be in letter and minutes writing.”

According to her, 100 students are expected to sit for the aptitude test and the best 20 will be coached on Microsoft Word, the overall best of the students will go home with a  laptop.

The coaching is expected to start from September 5th to 24th.

For the second leg which is for ages 10 to 15, they will be treated to 5 weeks of movie and popcorn.
