Foundation organises ‘Memorable Ramadan’ for widows in Oyo, Kwara, others

THE Zakat and Sadaqat Foundation (ZSF) in Oyo State, last weekend, marked its 1443/2022 ‘Memorable Ramadan’ programme for widows with the distribution of cash and food items to a number of beneficiaries.

At the programme, which was held simultaneously in Ibadan, Ogbomoso, Saki and Iseyin, N15,000 worth of food items comprising rice, beans, garri and palm oil as well as the sum N5,000 cash were presented to each of the women.

At the event in Ibadan, held under the supervision of the state coordinator, Dr Nafiu Musa, alongside other officers of the foundation, 52 widows went home with the gifts.

Before the symbolic distribution, the coordinator of the foundation for the female wing in the state, Hajiya Rizqat AbdulGaniy, gave a talk on the challenges of widowhood and prayed for the women.

AbdulGaniy urged the widows to see their situation as the will of Allah and rely solely on Him for their sustenance.

She also advised them to secure a good future for their children by ensuring that they are well educated and instilled with the fear of God.

Hajiya AbdulGaniy said the token and the food items being distributed to the widows were expected to support their sustenance for about two weeks.

“The essence is to provide them with some form of relief and put smiles on their faces. With that, they would be able to focus on the various acts of worship that will fetch them bountiful rewards from Allah in this holy month of Ramadan,” she told the Nigerian Tribune in a chat.

The state coordinator, Dr Musa, said the programme was aimed at enabling widows, most of whom don’t have people to fend for them and who have children to take care of, to start Ramadan fast with happiness.

“We are hoping to reach a point where we will be able to provide the widows with funds and items that would sustain them for the entire duration of Ramadan,” he added.

Also in Kwara State, the foundation presented food items and cash gifts to about 50 selected widows at the ‘Memorable Ramadan’ programme.

At the seventh edition of the programme, held in Ilorin on Wednesday, the female coordinator (widows and orphans department) of the foundation, Hajiya Bashirat AbdulRaheem Oluwakemi, said the programme was organised to reduce the challenges being faced by widows in the state.

Hajiya Oluwakemi said: “Memorable Ramadan is one of the programmes under the female wing of our foundation to alleviate problems that widows face in our society.

“Widows face such problems as neglect from their immediate families and society and inability to cope with life after the demise of their husbands. So, we are out to make Ramadan memorable for them. We pray Almighty Allah to make Ramadan memorable for them with the little items we could give them.

“The little we have is what we are sharing to about 50 beneficiaries. There were more than 300 widows that applied to our foundation.

“So, we implore well-to-do individuals and organisations in our society to partner with us and give their zakat and sadaqat or donate items to the foundation to help the widows and orphans that are in need because the little they give can make a great impact in their lives.”

‘Memorable Ramadan’ was organised simultaneously in 21 states, including Ogun, Osun and Lagos.
