Foundation charges youths to involve in politics to solve Nigeria’s problems

Dinidari foundation Africa held its town hall meeting in Abuja on Thursday centred around youths, activists and politicians across all geopolitical zones in the country charging them to contest elective offices.

In a communique signed by the Executive Director, Ms Ndi Kato and the Chief Operating Officer, Titilope Anifowoshe, the foundation berated the vicious clampdown on social critics, bloggers, leaders of religious and indigenous movements, activists and peaceful protesters challenging impunity, corruption and human right abuses.

“There has also been a tide of restrictive legislation including the NGO Regulatory Bill, Protection from Internet Falsehood Bill (Social Media Regulatory Bill), the Hate Speech Bill, amongst others,” the statement added.

It further expressed the use of tear gas, water cannons, and live ammunition against protesters seizure of the travel documents of the promoters of the #EndSARS protest and the opening of fire at peaceful protesters in Lekki toll gate and Alausa as a violation of rights perpetrated by the security forces of the country in a bit to suppress and shrink the civil space.

The meeting also brought discussions that border on democracy and human rights, security, education and unemployment, 2023 general elections, and the welfare of the Nigerian workers.

“We call on INEC and security agents not to compromise their constitutional roles, and to give equal opportunities to political parties and contestants in order to maintain the position of an unbiased umpire so that the outcome of the election can reflect the wishes of the electorates.

Meanwhile, the participants decry the increasing totalitarian tendency of President Muhammadu Buhari-led administration.

The foundation, therefore, charges youths across boards to join and participate actively in the political parties’ activities adding that political parties are supposed to be represented by well qualified and sound-minded candidates who are expected to proffer lasting solutions to the challenges facing the country.
