Five feared dead as gunmen attack traditional rulers in Imo

About five traditional rulers were feared killed when gunmen attacked traditional rulers who were having a meeting at Nnenasa Community in Njaba Local Government Area of Imo State, on Tuesday afternoon.

Sources told the Nigerian Tribune that the traditional rulers, numbering over 20, were at the local government headquarters at Nnenasa for a meeting when the gunmen stormed the council in a commando-style and shot at them.

The source added that in the ensuing commotion, no fewer than five of the traditional rulers were shot dead on the spot while a handful of them sustained varying degrees of injuries.

The source added that the injured victims have been evacuated to a hospital in the neighbourhood.

The Imo State Police Command spokesman, Mike Abatam, confirmed the incident to Nigerian Tribune but said only two of the traditional rulers were killed.

He declined to give further details.
