FG would be decisive on criminals attacking fire servicemen and properties ― Interior minister

The minister of Interior, Rauf Aregbesola, on Tuesday, said, the federal government would be decisive on criminals attacking fire service officers and properties across the nation.

Aregbesola disclosed this during the official commissioning of a multi-million naira fire fighting truck deployed to Taraba by the federal fire service held in Jalingo.

He noted that the federal government would no longer be kind with criminals attacking and vandalizing properties belonging to a defenceless agency like the fire service and men of the service who are stationed to protect the lives and property of citizens against fire incidence.

The minister explained that the idea for the deployment of the federal fire service modern fire fighting truck to Taraba was president Muhammadu Buhari’s core mandate in repositioning the federal fire service and commitment to the services of humanity.

“Fire incidences have increased from 2020 to 2021 due to climate change as reviewed by statistics and the federal government is doing everything possible to ensure the repossession of the fire service to address the challenge.

“The deployment of this modern fire fighting truck, we believe would help in strengthening the state fire service against the occurrences of fire across Taraba State.

“We want Taraba State government to enrol her state fire servicemen into our training schools across the 6 zones in the country for quality and efficient service delivery,” the interior minister stated.

Governor Darius Ishaku while responding, commended President Buhari and the federal fire service for the gesture.

“The deployement of this multi-million Naira fire fighting truck to Taraba and other states of the federation is a positive and commendable effort by the federal government.

“The devastating nature of fire and its incidences is what a responsible government should be taken seriously and make an available mechanism to prevent its negative effect.

“We are doing our best here in the state to ensure the prevention of lives and property of citizens against fire incidence, and we are going to mobilize our state fire officers for further training into the federal fire service training schools for more knowledge on fire fighting,” Ishaku expressed.

Earlier, Dr Iimam Ibrahim, the Controller of general federal fire service noted that the deployement of the multi-million naira modern fire fighting truck to Taraba was to compliment the effort of the state fire service in firefighting and build a robust collaboration between the federal fire service and the state against fire incidence.
