The Federal Ministry of Health has received in donation some medical equipment worth $1 million from the Government of Saudi Arabia to further strengthen the fight against COVID-19.
This is contained in a statement signed by the Director of Media and Public Relations, Olusegun Adetola on Tuesday in Abuja.
The statement quoted the Minister of Health, Dr Osagie Ehanire, thanking the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia for the tremendous donation of 23 ventilators, surgical sterile gowns, non-sterile surgical gowns, surgical mask and nitrite gloves.
Ehanire who was represented by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Alhaji Abdulazeez Mashi Abdullahi, reiterated the Nigerian government effort to fight the COVID-19 pandemic to the total level of eradication.
He appreciated the Government of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia for its continuous contribution to the growth of the health sector in Nigeria through the King Salman Humanitarian Aid & Relief Centre.
He also acknowledged the extensive efforts of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia by combating blindness, cataract and glaucoma in addition to other sight weakness and disorders.
He further commended the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia for its role as a key partner in global health and development.
He expressed delight over the Kingdom’s efforts for being in forefront of combating the menace in order to save human lives and preserve global health.
In his remarks, the Ambassador of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, Faisal Ibrahim Alghamdi, emphasized the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia Government plan to organize twelve voluntary medical campaign to combat blindness, heart surgery and cataract in which medical campaign is planned for six Geo-political zones of the country.
He also mentioned different humanitarian assistance being rendered by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to displaced persons in the North-East as food baskets worth of $10m have been distributed to families in some parts of the country such as Borno, Yobe, and Zamfara States.
In attendance were officials from the Ministry of Health including Dr Adebimpe Adebiyi, Director, Hospital Services and Mr Olusegun Adetola, Director, Media and Public Relations.
