Minister of State for Petroleum Resources, Timipre Sylva
The Federal Government (FG), on Monday, unfolded plans to export gas sales through its West Africa gas pipeline to Senegal, Morocco and Europe.
It said already, the pipeline, which is functional, currently supplies the commodity to the Benin Republic, Togo and Ghana.
Speaking at a briefing to mark Nigeria’s 50 years membership of OPEC in Abuja, the Minister of State for Petroleum Resources, Mr Timipre Sylva expressed the current administration’s commitment to the project.
He said: “We are thinking about extending it to Senegal and also other countries in West Africa and from there, moving it on the coastline to Morocco of course you know Morocco shares boundaries with Europe. So once it gets to Morocco, we believe we can hook up with the Morocco gas pipeline and take our gas straight to Europe.
“That project is still on and Mr President is very committed to it, the King of Morocco is also very committed to it and we hope that we will take to the advanced stage before the end of this administration.”
He further disclosed that rehabilitation of Warri and Kaduna refineries would commence in a few weeks.
According to him, rehabilitation of the Port Harcourt refinery is still ongoing adding that it has perfected plans to commence repairs of others.
“We have ticked all our boxes as far as our mandates are concerned,” he stated.
