The Nigerian Union of Local Government Employees (NULGE) in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Abuja, has enthroned new leadership to pilot its affairs for the next four years.
The Minister for FCT Administration, Dr. Ramatu Tijjani Aliyu, who graced the NULGE 7th quadrennial delegates’ conference, charged NULGE members to always check the excesses of government at the grassroots level.
The Minister noted that NULGE is an engine room through which the government can succeed in its quest to build a developed nation. She went on to challenge the executive members of the union to always take the welfare of its members seriously.
Represented by her Special Assistant on Area Council matters and Chieftaincy Affairs, Alhaji Mohammed Saba, the Minister promised that FCTA would continue to accord the union necessary support that would enable it succeed in the task before it.
Dr. Aliyu, who commended the outgoing executives of the union for living up to the expectations of their members, urged the incoming executive to follow suit in discharge of their responsibilities.
Speaking at the event, the outgoing President of NULGE, FCT chapter, Comrade Abubakar Alhassan Yakub said the delegate election was in line with rule seven of the NULGE Electoral Regulations hence all the elected executives remained validly nominated for their various elected positions.
Comrade Yakub commended members of the union for their peaceful disposition during the election and urged the newly elected executives to always work for the interest of their members.
In his acceptance speech, the newly elected state president of the union in FCT, Comrade Ibrahim Abdullahi, thanked members for giving them the opportunity to lead them for the period of four years and promised not to betray the confidence reposed in them.
He, however, assured its members that one of the major tasks before the newly elected executives is to see the actualisation of payment of outstanding salary arrears of staff of the Area Council.
Earlier, the National President of NULGE, Comrade Ambali Akeem Olatunji urged the newly elected executives to consolidate on the past achievements of the outgoing exco for the benefit of their members.
All those that contested for the various FCT NULGE positions returned unopposed during the quadrennial delegate conference held in Abuja a forthnight ago to pilot the affairs of the union for the period of four years.
Amongst others that returned unopposed were, Comrade David Jazhi Iyah (Deputy President), Comrade Hannatu Abdullahi (Chairperson), Comrade Bala Tukura (State Treasurer), Comrade Abubakar Forgbe (Treasurer 1), Comrade Musa Gideo (Treasurer ll), Comrade Alherin Sale (Welfare), Comrade Salihu Mohammad (Auditor), Comrade Iswa Asher (Auditor ll), Comrade Goje Daniel (Publicity Sec), Comrade Adamu Yahaya (Young worker).
