Ethno-cultural agitations, bane of Nigerian constitution ― Adekoya

Hon. Adekoya Adesegun has said that the various ethnocultural agitations being experience in some sections of Nigeria Nation has been attributed to various inadequacies of the present constitution that we operate.

Adekoya disclosed this in Birnin-Kebbi, on Tuesday, in his capacity as the Chairman, Kebbi centre of the North-West zone Constitutional Review Committee sitting comprising Sokoto, Kebbi and Zamfara States at the Presidential House auditorium.

Adekoya who is also Deputy minority whip in the House of Representatives noted that it is no longer news that Nigeria as a country is going through a difficult period saddled with growing insecurity across the country.

He pointed out that because there is the need to address these deficiencies in our Constitution that the National Assembly especially House of Repreaentatives under the leadership of Rt. Hon. Femi Gbajabiamila decided to return to our people across the length and breath of Nigeria with a view to seek their voices, contributions, participations and imputs in the proposed alteration of the provision of Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria 1999 as amended.

In his contribution, the Kebbi State Governor, Abubakar Atiku Bagudu argued for the inclusion of the role of Traditional Rulers in the incoming Constitution of Nigeria, expressing that role of Royal fathers in the present day Nigeria is prominent and can not be pushed aside.

He recalled that before the amalgamation of Nigeria in 1914, Nigerians accorded tremendious respect for their Traditional Rules, he added that as one of the uniqueness of the country, Nigeria is placed as the seventh most populous country of the world.
