Equities investors lose N5.8bn as bears persist at NGX

Trading in the Nigerian Exchange Limited (NGX) ended on a bearish note, on Wednesday, as a late sell-off of Zenith Bank undermined market performance.

As a result, the NGX All Share Index (ASI) declined by three points to close at 38,791.03 basis points.

Accordingly, the Month-to-Date gain printed +2.3 per cent, while the Year-to-Date loss remained flat at -3.7 per cent.

Consequently, investors lost N5.8billion as the market’s worth settled at N20.21 trillion.

As measured by market breadth, market sentiment was negative as 22 tickers lost, relative to 18 gainers.

On the performance chart, Tripple G and Chi Plc topped the losers’ list after shedding ten per cent each from their share value, while Cap Hotel and Oando recorded the most significant gains of the day after increasing by 9.9 per cent and 9.8 per cent.

Sectoral performance was mixed, as the Oil and Gas and Consumer Goods indices recorded gains by 1.7 per cent and 0.1 per cent respectively, while the Banking and Insurance Goods indices declined by respective 0.9 per cent.

Elsewhere, the Industrial Goods index closed flat.

Activities at the local bourse on Wednesday was unimpressive as the total volume of trades declined by 2.3 per cent to 237.51 million units, valued at N1.88 billion, and exchanged in 4,305 deals.

Oando was the most traded stock by volume at 44.29 million units, while Zenith Bank was the most traded stock by value at N270.80 million.

VERDICT: The claim that the consumption of rotten tomatoes can cause liver cancer is true. The WHO noted that consuming mycotoxins found in rotten tomatoes can lead to long-term effects such as immune deficiency and cancer.

FULL STORY: A Facebook user, Adebisi Yusuff Adebayo, in a post, claimed that rotten tomatoes contain fungi which produce a toxin that may cause liver cancer.

According to the post, boiling and frying it does not help remove the fungi completely.
