Equities investors earn N7.97bn on bullish trade

Equities trading at the Nigerian Exchange Limited (NGX), on Wednesday, enjoys positive sentiments as the domestic bourse index gained 0.04 per cent to settle at 37,872.55 basis points.

Amid renewed bargain hunting activity, the market breadth closed trading session impressive as the bulls outnumbered the bears with 18 against 11.

Hence, the year-to-date loss of the local bourse moderated to 5.95 per cent.

Equities investors at the end of trading activities at the local bourse on Wednesday, earns N7.97 billion as the market capitalisation settled at N19.732 trillion as against an opening of N19.724 trillion.

Sentiment was positive in the market as buying interest in symbols such as Total, MTN Nigeria, PZ and FBN Holdings led to the increase in their respective share prices by 6.06 per cent, 0.61 per cent, 1.75 per cent and 0.69 per cent.

However, performance was mixed in the market as two out of five indices tracked closed northwards while the rest moved in mixed directions; the NGX Consumer Goods and the NGX Oil/GAs indices rose by 0.02 per cent and 0.58 per cent respectively.

On the flip side, the NSE Banking and the NSE Insurance indices fell by 0.91 per cent and 0.28 per cent respectively while the NSE industrial index remained flat.
