Enugu gov assures World Bank of support to boost agriculture

The Governor of Enugu State, Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi, has assured the World Bank of support for the Bank’s assisted project, Agro-processing, Productivity Enhancement and Livelihood Improvement Support Project (APPEALS) in the State to increase farmers’ yield.

The Governor said this at the 7th World Bank Implementation Support Mission for the APPEALS Project held in Enugu.

Speaking through his Special Adviser/Focal Person on World Bank and other Developmental Partner Projects, Uche Nnadi, the Governor assured the bank of all the support needed for the APPEALS project to record the needed success stories so as to impact on the farmers in Enugu state, to increase their yields, expand their marketing frontiers and increase their economic capacity while adding to the general economic growth of the state.

The Task Team Leader, APPEALS Project, Dr Adetunji Oredipe, stated that the team was in Enugu to review the progress on implementation of the project.

He emphasized that the team wants to find out the challenges that the project in the state is having since it is the least disbursing among the 6 participating states.

He reiterated the commitment of the bank to assist in fast-tracking the capacity of the project to meet its project development objectives for the state.

The National Project Coordinator; Alhaji Sani Jobdi, in his remarks, urged the Enugu APPEALS team to consolidate on the efforts made so far and facilitate faster disbursements.

He affirmed that the PIU has the capacity to deliver and encouraged the team to do whatever it can to implement all the activities that have received clearance from the Bank.

Welcoming the team, the Enugu State Project Coordinator, Mr Christian Nwachukwu Odigbo, expressed confidence that the presence of the team in Enugu and the opportunity of the 7th Mission will assist the state coordinating office to smoothen the rough edges, strengthen the weak areas, consolidate on the little progress and leapfrog into greater achievements.
