Engage idle hands, do more regarding security, Clergyman charges Makinde

Provost, the Cathedral of St Peter, Aremo, Ibadan, Very Reverend Adewale Adebiyi, has charged Oyo State Governor, Mr Seyi Makinde, to do more with regards to ensuring security in the state.

Especially noting that there were a lot of idle hands that constitute issues of insecurity in the state, he urged the Makinde led government to engage those idle hands for the state to have peace.

Adebiyi particularly pointed out that he expects the newly inaugurated local government Chairmen to complement the state government’s efforts by engaging some idle hands.

Adebiyi gave this charge during a thanksgiving service held at the Cathedral of St Peter, Aremo, Ibadan, on Sunday, to mark the second year in office of the Governor Seyi Makinde government.

Though Adebiyi praised the Makinde government for ensuring relative peace in the state, the clergyman charged the Makinde government to implement programmes to gainfully engage “boys” that are spread across various localities.

While praising the Makinde government for providing Aremo with a transformer after over 13 years, Adebiyi urged Makinde to be grateful, trust God always, live according to God’s precepts and see God as a source of his achievements.
Responding to the clergyman’s call, Makinde said the state was making steady progress in tackling poverty and insecurity.

On security, Makinde called to question what the state of insecurity would have been without the establishment of the Amotekun corps.

While urging residents to be security conscious and give reports to security agencies, Makinde said the state will, in the next few weeks, provide more equipment for security agencies.

He listed efforts at tackling poverty to include the provision of free and quality education, without collecting a dime.
He added that with the free education policy, 54,000 out-of-school children had been brought to school.

Makinde added that he had approved the recruitment of 500 health personnel after an earlier engagement to 5,000 teachers and soon-to-be-engaged 2,000 non-teaching staff.

Speaking further, Makinde said 299 out of 351 primary health care centres, in each ward in the state, were under renovation with money already set aside for that purpose.

He, however, called for more prayers and support of residents of his state for his government.
