#ElectionResult: Mustapha, Ashiru of APC win Senate seats in Kwara

Mallam Saliu Mustapha, the All Progressives Congress (APC) Senatorial Candidate, has been declared winner of the Kwara Central senatorial district by Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

According to Professor Abdullahi Saliu Abubakar, the INEC Returning officer,  Saliu Mustapha polled 109,823 votes to defeat his main opponent, Bolaji Abdullahi of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) who polled 69,202.

While Ridwan Apaokagi of Social Democratic Party (SDP) scores 13,193, Akanbi Farook of Labour Party (LP) secured 9,280 votes.

Mallam Mustapha, who is the Turaki of Ilorin also won in the four local government areas in the senatorial district, to represent the district for the first time.

Also, Senator Lola Ashiru representing Kwara South Senatorial District of Kwara (APC) has been reelected for another term in office.

The returning officer for the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Professor Ajibola Akanbi, made the announcement at the collation centre in OmuAran on Sunday night.

Declaring the official result, Akanbi said Senator Lola Ashiru of the All Progressives Congress (APC) polled a total of 55,966, while Senator Rafiu Ibrahim of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) scored 34,950

Professor Wale Suleiman of Social Democratic Party (SDP) polled a total 24,215 to come third in the keenly contested election.

It was gathered that late arrival of officials from Offa and Oyun local government areas delayed the announcement of the result on Sunday night.
