The Ekiti State government, on Wednesday, said it would clamp down on individuals and groups going about in the state offering public health outreaches without the approval of the government.
In a statement on Wednesday by the commissioner for health services, Dr Oyebanji Filani said the ministry was aware of reports that some groups are advertising free eye surgeries and other medical services, adding that the government would not watch and allow some elements jeopardize and put at risk the health conditions of residents in the state.
The statement made available by the press officer of the ministry, Wale Obelewaji, the commissioner described the practice as, “unwholesome, unacceptable and condemnable.
“Henceforth the state would take disciplinary action against the promoters of such illegal medical/health outreaches.”
He urged the general public to be, “ weary of such outreaches because of the risks posed to their health.”
The commissioner encouraged residents to patronize public health institutions because of the proven quality of service being provided in line with the policy direction of the state.
Oyebanji reiterated the commitment of the state government to the wellness of Ekiti residents through various interventions and admonished the people to refrain from, “patronising quacks and unauthorized health facilities.”
He advised private healthcare providers that are willing to render ad hoc healthcare services to obtain clearance from the ministry failing which would attract huge sanctions.
