The Ekiti State government, on Tuesday, disclosed that it would restore the payment of minimum wage consequential adjustment to senior workers in the state civil service.
Following dwindling revenue, the government had in June stopped the payment of the consequential adjustment and reduce subventions to institutions for it to meet up with the financial obligations.
The Commissioner for Information, Mr Akin Omole in a statement noted that the decision to resume the payment and increase subventions were reached during the August edition of the economic review committee meeting.
He also said that payment of full subvention to the Ekiti University Teaching Hospital (EKSUTH) has been restored, while the August subvention for the Ekiti State University and the Bamidele Olumilua University of Education Science and Technology has been increased from 50 per cent to 60 per cent with a promise that it would be increased in the month of September.
According to him, the workers on grade levels 7 and 8 will receive payment of their consequential adjustment for August with an assurance that the arrears will be paid in September, while those on grade levels 9 to 12 would have their payment implemented in September.
Omole further said, “25 per cent reduction in the salary of all political office holders, including Permanent Secretaries and Executive Secretaries is still in place.
“The state government commends the labour leaders for their sacrifice and understanding, and the good people of Ekiti State for their cooperation with the government to navigate through this period of financial challenges.
“The welfare of workers in Ekiti State remains our priority, and the administration of Governor Kayode Fayemi has no plan to downsize the workforce or retrench any worker as a result of financial challenges facing the state.”
