The Ekiti State Executive Council has approved a total sum of N7.6 billion for the construction and rehabilitation of roads across the state.
The decision was taken at the weekly meeting of the council with the breakdown showing that N921 million was approved for the construction of Ikole township roads, while N4.3 billion was ratified for the construction of Ado/Iworoko road.
Also, a sum of N2.3 billion is to be spent on the construction of bus terminals and pedestrian walkway/drain covers along Ijigbo road to Okeiyinmi roundabout in the State capital.
The state commissioner for Information, Mr Akin Omole who made this known in Ado-Ekiti, the state capital while addressing journalists on the outcome of the Executive Council meeting, said that the contractors handling the roads have been given between 10 and 12months to complete the projects.
Describing the approval for the award of contracts for the road projects as a demonstration of the commitment of the Governor Kayode Fayemi-led administration to develop the State and make the environment conducive for investors to thrive.
Omole reiterated the passion of the administration to advance an economic and industrial revolution in the state towards boosting job and wealth creation.
He said, ” The approval for the award of contracts which followed due process and diligent vetting by the Bureau of Public Procurement is a demonstration of the commitment of Governor Kayode Fayemi’s administration to advance the economic and industrial revolution in the state.
“These strategic road projects will augur well for the enabling environment for businesses and investments to thrive, and the safety and security of lives and property.”
The Commissioner solicited the continued support of the people for the government’s efforts at developing the state, stressing the need for patience and understanding of motorists and commuters during the period of the construction works.
According to him, obeying traffic diversions and all necessary traffic laws would not only assist in ensuring timely completion of the projects,” it would also help in making the state a destination of choice for both tourists and investors as well as ensuring the general comfort of residents.”
