Ekiti Assembly condemns indiscriminate sacking of university workers

Published by

The Ekiti State House of Assembly has condemned the manner in which the appointments of some staff of the Ekiti State University (EKSU) Ado-Ekiti and College of Health Technology Ijero-Ekiti were recently terminated.

Tribune Online recalls that no fewer than 1,000 staff of Ekiti State University were laid off in controversial circumstance, while many others also got their appointments terminated at the State College of Health Sciences Technology in 2019.

The house said such actions by the two institutions were not in tandem with the five pillars of the present administration and against the good governance agenda of the state Governor, Dr Kayode Fayemi.

The Chairman of the House Committee on Public Petition, Honourable Adegoke Olajide, stated this on Wednesday during an interface between the Committee and the Management of the College of Health Technology, Ijero Ekiti and Ekiti State University, over the recent termination of the appointment of some workers of the two state-owned institutions.

He charged the management of the two institutions to give the workers fair hearing and be transparent in the report of the panel of enquiry being considered.

Olajide also urged the two management to be transparent in handling the matters that have to do with the welfare of their staffs.

According to him, ” Though some of the workers of the College of Health Technology were alleged of misappropriation of funds, the commitment of the present administration to fair hearing good governance and fair play has never been in doubt.”

He promised that justice would be done, particularly on the issues concerning those who have genuine evidence to prove wrongful termination and that the Committee would not hesitate to review shoddy report that might be submitted by any panel of enquiry before the implementation of such report.
