Egbe community to host Okun-Yoruba annual national congress

The Okun Development Association (ODA), the paramount socio-cultural and developmental organization representing the Yoruba people in Kogi State, is gearing up for its annual national congress scheduled to take place on Friday, March 8th, and Saturday, March 9th, 2024, in Egbe, Yagba West Local Government Council, Kogi State.

During the two-day event, a new Executive Committee will be elected to lead the ODA, marking the conclusion of the tenure of the current Executive Committee under the leadership of the outgoing president-general, Chief Femi Mokikan.

In a statement issued on Thursday, Chief Femi Mokikan, the outgoing President-General, urged all members of the ODA to participate actively in this significant event.

He emphasised the pivotal role their presence and involvement would play in ensuring the success of the association and advancing the progress of the Okun Nation.

“This congress serves as a gathering of Okun Sons and Daughters, both at home and in the diaspora, who are deeply committed to the sustainable development and advancement of Okunland, our ancestral homeland,” Chief Mokikan stated.

All members of the Okun Development Association are encouraged to mark their calendars and make arrangements to attend this important event, as their contributions and active participation are essential in charting the course for the future of Okunland and its people.

Meanwhile, Nigeria’s pioneer High Commissioner to Sri-Lanka, Ambassador Akenson Rotimi has declared his intention to succeed Chief Femi Mokikan as Predident-General of the ODA.

In his letter of intent addressed to all Okun compatriots, home and Diaspora, Ambassador Rotimi aligned his desire to lead the ODA with his vision that the organisation, “at this momentous stage of our history” required patriotic kinsmen/women who will
identify and pursue the collective dreams and aspirations of the Okun people.
