EFCC detains Benue Speaker, principal officers

SPEAKER, Benue State Assembly, Honourable Terkimbir Ikyange and three principal officers were detained on Tuesday by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

The Nigerian Tribune reliably gathered that the principal officers of the assembly were invited to Abuja over misappropriation of N750 million meant for the purchase of cars for the members.

Sources told the Nigerian Tribune that others invited included the Deputy Speaker James Okefe and the Majority Leader Benjamin Adanyi, were said to have been visitors of the anti-graft for over a week before they were finally detained.

The source in the House confirmed the arrest saying, “as I speak to you now, a bail application for these officers is been processed,” adding that the lawmakers were detained since Tuesday.

As of the time of filing this report, efforts were on to release the House leaders.

Meanwhile, a pressure group in the state known as Concerned Benue Youth for Good Governance has called for the resignation of the principal officers.

The group led by John Ashaver in a signed press statement, noted that the officers lack any moral to lead the House.
