Edo SUBEB announces massive infrastructural development, digital learning

Published by

Edo State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB) announced on Thursday that it had undertaken 181 projects in primary and secondary schools in the state to improve their infrastructure.

The Board also revealed that its activities regarding the anchor programme, Edo Basic Education Transformations System (EdoBEST), were sponsored and supervised by the World Bank.

The ongoing projects include the construction and renovation of classrooms, perimeter fencing, and toilets, among others.

Chairman of the Board, Mrs Ozevize Salami, disclosed this at a press conference held at the John Odigie Oyegun Public Service Academy (JOOPSA) in Benin City, highlighting the achievements of the Board in the last two years.

She mentioned that the state government provided free education for pupils up to JSS 3 and enriched the school curricula with life skills to make the pupils competitive should they decide to discontinue their education.

Salami further revealed that 228 schools under EdoBEST had 346,757 pupils, with 15,125 digitally trained teachers, and that governance across SUBEB and the schools had significantly improved.

She stated, “What we are doing is building systems that can outlast us at the end of our tenure,” emphasising that the Board focused on instilling values in pupils/students to help them understand and appreciate important aspects of life.

However, Mrs Salami clarified that schools in rural or hard-to-reach areas could not receive EdoBEST in the same manner as those in urban areas. Therefore, a special package had been designed to deliver learning to these schools.
