Dutse LG loses N30m annually to ghost workers ― Report

THE chairman, House committee on education in Jigawa State Assembly, Hon. Suraja Kantoga said Dutse Local Government Council alone is losing a total sum of N30 million to ghost workers in the education department annually.

The lawmaker made the disclosure while submitting a committee report on the committee’s finding during the verification exercise for primary and junior secretary schools teachers in Dutse Local Government Area.

According to the committee during its sitting, it was discovered that about 84 teachers were accused of different offences, while it ordered stoppage of payment of monthly salary of 16 teachers on the basis of lack of competence and absence of approved paper qualifications to teach.”

Hon. Surajo Kantoga maintained that “the committee also directed two teachers to refund two months salary having been indicted by the committee.”

“14 teachers have not registered with the teachers’ registration council, the committee also discovered that 29 teachers were promoted illegally just as one teacher was recently employed illegally.”

Receiving the report, the Dutse Council Chairman, Hon. Bala Usman Chamo commended the committee for a job well done, assuring that the implementation of the committee reports will go a long way in injecting sanity, transparency, and social justice in local government administration.

Chamo who is also ALGON Chairman, in the state reiterated the resolve of the present administration to reposition local government administration in the state, assuring that the report would be implemented.
