Don’t interfere in NURTW wrangling, ex-union chieftain cautions NLC

Published by

Former deputy-general secretary of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), Alhaji Moshood Ajao, on Sunday, cautioned the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), not to wade into the seeming crisis in the transport union.

He contended that the presence of security agencies at the headquarters of the NURTW located around Garki 2, in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja was at the instance of the present executive of the union, led by its national president, Alhaji Tajudeen Badiru Agbede.

Ajao, who gave the warning in a statement forwarded to Tribune Online, described the rejection of the security agents’ presence at the NURTW  headquarters by the labour as uncalled for, stressing that the development is to maintain peace and order.

The statement read: “The presence of policemen at the national secretariat of NURTW is in accordance with the constitution of our union. During the tenure of the past national executive of our union, activities of the NURTW were suspended in all the states in the South West, excluding Ekiti.

“NLC’s demand for the Police to leave the premises of our union’s headquarters in Abuja as one of their six demands to the Federal Government over fuel subsidy imbroglio was misplaced, unjustified and baseless, “the statement added.

He, however, urged the NLC to delist the presence of police at the NURTW headquarters as one of their demands before the President Bola Tinubu-led administration.
