A Nigerian entertainment mogul, Augustine Emeka Ugbaja, popularly known as Dr Whyte Official, has encouraged Nigerian youths to get educated first so they can be better positioned as a musician.
Educational qualification, he said will lift the personality of a musician and will make such to earn good respect among competitors in the industry.
He said the likes of Davido, Wizkid, Tuface Idibia, Tekno, Zlatan and the rest all have good educational backgrounds before going into music.
Ugbaja, the CEO and founder of Southnice Records, has been a promoter and producer of indigenous singers, who are already making waves in the industry.
He said: “Music is a good and lucrative business, which is being patronised by all humans all over the world. No one can do without at least, good music irrespective of that person’s background. Music is the food for the soul.
“But I wish to appeal to our youths, the world is changing already, and developments are changing how the game is being played across different sectors of the economy. It is affecting the music industry too. Everyone now must up their game.
“For someone who wants to excel quickly as a musician now, that person must seek to have an educational qualification which will even help in enhancing the person’s profile and quick adaptability to the competitive and somewhat intimidating environment.
“Don’t go into music as an ill-educated person, your growth will be slow, and we may need to start a rigorous schooling for you on how to use the latest technology, both on the software and hardware being used these days to produce music.”
He further charged the government and regulatory bodies to ensure that the industry is properly funded and ease the heavy import duties placed on some of the needed instruments needed to do the business in tune with today’s demands.
