The Katsina State government has debunked a circular purportedly issued by the Nigerian Communications Commission, NCC, announcing plans to shut down telecom services in the state to curb armed banditry and kidnapping.
In a press release by Abdu Labaran, the spokesman to Governor Aminu Bello Masari, the circular is fake, noting that it was forged and circulated on social media by rumour mongers.
He said before such an important decision is taken all stakeholders would be consulted while citizens would be informed well in advance.
Abdu Labaran said the state government was doing its best in supporting security agencies to check the spate of attacks by armed bandits and kidnappers in the affected Local Government Areas.
