Disquiet in Obi/Datti Coalition over Obi’s visit to Bauch gov

Published by

There is disquiet in the Obi-Datti Coalition/Obi Movement in Bauchi State over the recent visit by the presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP) in the 2023 elections, Mr Peter Obi to the state governor, Senator Bala Mohammed.

Members of the movement claimed that they were sidelined during and after the meeting, whereas the social media was agog with reports concerning the fallout.  parley.

A few days ago, Obi met behind closed doors with the Bauchi Governor and Chairman, PDP Governors Forum, Senator Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed after which they explained that they are exploring mutual grounds on how to navigate the 2027 general election.

Speaking to newsmen on behalf of the members, the chairman of the coalition, Elder Abel Musa, frowned on the fact that they were not carried along concerning the visit of Obi to the governor.

According to them, the meeting was held without prior consultation with the Obidient Movement in the area.

“The oversight undermines the collective efforts made by the Movement before, during, and after the 2023 elections, as well as our ongoing initiatives aimed at improving Nigeria.

“Such actions risk discouraging a Movement that has emerged in response to critical issues, including maladministration, insecurity, infrastructure deficits, and the rising cost of living.

“The claim that His Excellency Obi’s visit was purely private is misleading; he is not an ordinary citizen, even when he is in a private capacity.”

“The visit was not private, as it was broadcast live on social media and covered by mainstream media, including a question-and-answer session,” he stated.

Musa said it was a slight on part of the committed members of the coalition who had sustained mobilization for the course of the LP and its candidate in the last general election.

“Sadly, this situation arose shortly after a very successful North East Obidient Movement Summit, where dedicated members from Bauchi State actively participated in both planning and execution.

“Feeling sidelined during this visit is unfortunate and provocative for our members. I understand and appreciate the frustration and anger expressed by the Obidient Movement members regarding this matter.

“I commend the maturity of all coordinators and stakeholders for their efforts to calm any frayed nerves and to reinforce our belief that a new Nigeria is possible,” he added.

He appealed to members of the Obidient Movement to remain focused and consistent in upholding its values, even as he urged Obi and his team to reconsider their approach and involve the Obidient Movement in future activities across various states.

“This collaboration is vital to rekindling the enthusiasm that seems to be waning due to recent actions and inactions,” Musa stated.
