Despite my mother’s resistance, I chose to be a fashion model — Sophia Etomi

Young, multi-talented model and influencer, Sophia Etomi, who is fondly known as Etomisophia, has spoken on how she was able to become a fashion model despite encountering stiff opposition from her mother.

Like it is with most average African families, Nigerian parents want their kids to be medical doctors, engineers, lawyers and accountants.

As such, careers in music, comedy, sports and entertainment were years ago, the pastimes of the children of the poor.

This is the story of Sophia Etomi, a Nigerian Content Creator, model and influencer all rolled into one.

Gradually establishing herself as a household name in the fashion industry, life from the beginning wasn’t a rosy one for young Sophia Etomi, who had to contend with the rigid stand of her mother

Sophia Etomi told this medium, “I found it hard and I’m not going to lie. My mom wouldn’t just let me be. At times, I had to do things without her knowledge. Even now, she still wants to correct me just like every Nigerian mother..

“I sneak out most times to do my thing and gradually, things started falling into place- a little bit of recognition here and there and things started taking shape”, Sophia Etomi said.

That said, Etomisophia expressed satisfaction with her achievements so far but she has not ruled out the possibility of putting her acting skills to the test very soon.

“Yes, the love and support has been massive but deep down, “I think being an actress is a next phase or step for me. I just want to have a taste and beautiful experience of being a successful actress and definitely a business entrepreneur as well,” Sophia Etomi said.

As for her love life, the beautiful model would rather keep it to her chest for now, saying, “I just flash them a smile and keep them guessing,” she says, stressing humorously that “The guy that captured my heart is him.”
