Delta State, upgrade your website

Published by

WE write to point out certain lapses on the website of the Delta State government. First, if you take a quick glance at the budget of Delta State, tagged ‘Delta State Citizens Budget 2023 – Budget of seamless and stable transition,’ you might find a section where there’s a breakdown of how monies for 2023 will be spent. In that breakdown, I have scanned and scanned, but cannot find any ministry responsible for information and communication.

There are many lapses on the Delta State government website. One, it is not really a website but a mere blog, hosted on a template provided by WordPress.com. Two, it appears as if Delta State has a NATIONAL Assembly instead of a STATE assembly, because that’s what is there on the ‘website’ with a web page with pictures completely at variance with the said NATIONAL Assembly of Delta State.

A little further into the so-called website, careful visitors would see that the Delta State government seems to want to spend a lot on education. It has budgeted N6 billion to ministry of primary education, N7.40 billion to ministry of technical education, another N18 billion to a ministry of higher education and, lastly, another N14 billion to a ministry of secondary education. And so, the context seems to be that there are serious challenges with education in Delta State. If not, with all the monies being spent to educate our people, it seems very difficult to get someone who can build a respectable site from scratch for the Delta State government. Delta State gets one of the highest statutory allocations in Nigeria. The state has a 13 percent derivation from the federal purse and humongous monies are said to be spent on DESOPADEC.

If the government of Delta State is unaware, people get a first impression from the website of a state. Inability to have a very good site is the hallmark of failure. And what is worse, getting to host a government site on WordPress is recklessness and carelessness.
