The Cross River State Chapter of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) has called on the state governor, Professor Ben Ayade, to listen to the agitations of workers.
The party said it was aware that the governor prides himself as the “Alert Master” and lover of civil servants.
The PDP’s position was made known in Calabar through a release signed by its State Publicity Secretary, Prince Mike Ojisi.
The party said it is “aware that the governor sanctimoniously prides himself as the ‘Alert Master’ and lover of civil servants, and we humbly appeal to his conscience to dialogue with the leadership of the Organised Labour Union and listen to their agitations.”
“The party wholeheartedly identifies with the struggle for a better welfare and remuneration for workers, not just in Cross River State, but the entire country,” the statement read.
The Cross River State PDP said that it was concerned that “workers who are the true drivers of government policies and programmes are treated shabbily”.
The party however expressed confidence that there would be light at the end of the tunnel for workers in the state.
