Cracks emerge in Oyo PDP as stakeholders call for dissolution of exco

A fresh crisis has hit the Oyo State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) as some leaders under the auspices of PDP Stakeholders have called on the Uche Secondus-led National Working Committee (NWC) to dissolve the party executives in the state.

The PDP stakeholders, who made the call after a meeting held at the JOGOR Events Centre in Ibadan, the state capital, on Thursday, asked Secondus to put in place a caretaker committee to pilot the affairs of the party ahead of congresses.

In a communiqué issued after the meeting and read by Alhaji Bola Akinyemi, the stakeholders accused the party executives of allegedly not having the interest of the party at heart, adding that they should give way for the congresses to be free and fair.

“Today is to alert the leadership of PDP and members of the party across Nigeria and general public that Oyo State PDP has been factionalised into two – one is headed by the governor and the other by the leaders and stakeholders across the 33 local governments as evidence at this meeting.

“This is due to governor’s alleged highhandedness and lack of leadership within the party as expected of a governor,” part of the communiqué, jointly signed on behalf of the stakeholders by Chief Nureni Akanbi and a former Deputy Governor of the state, Hazeem Gbolarumi, said.

According to them, the decision to ask for the dissolution of the party is based on their resolve to save the party from mismanagement and other tendencies in the party.

“The stakeholders call on the national leadership of PDP to urgently step in to rescue the party in the state from the grip of the governor who is allegedly running the party like his personal estate. To be forewarned is to be forearmed,” the communiqué said further.

The stakeholders, who observed a minutes silence for all who have lost their lives to security breaches, particularly those killed in the latest attack on Igangan, condemned the spate of insecurity in the state.

Other leaders at the meeting included a former governorship aspirant, Femi Babalola; Alhaji Bisi Olopoeniyan; a former Commissioner for Environment, Alhaji Ismail Aborode; a former member of the state House of Assembly, Mr Matthew Abioye; Alhaji Bola Akinyemi; a member of the Governing Council of the state College of Agriculture and Technology, Igboora, Mrs Aderonke Adedoja; Mr Michael Okunlade; leaders from all the seven zones of the state, among others.
