COVID-19 Delta variant not synonymous with Delta State, says Okowa

Published by

Delta Variant Covid-19 pandemic is not synonymous with Nigeria’s oil-rich Delta State, Governor Ifeanyi Okowa has clarified, urging mischief makers to watch it.

Okowa made the clarification on Friday while inaugurating executed projects in Sapele and Ethiope West local government areas of the state.

He tasked the people of the state to continue to abide by all the COVID-19 protocols against the pandemic such as wearing their face masks and using sanitary sanitisers at all times.

Governor Okowa noted with concern that many Nigerians have been carrying the erroneous belief that the COVID-19 pandemic no longer exists in the country.

“The numbers are now on the rise and prevalent, especially in Lagos State, even though the Variant Delta is not synonymous with Delta State.

“I am seriously appealing to all the good people of Delta State to use the face mask and the sanitisers, as prescribed.

“We must all do the needful to ward off the pandemic in the State,” he charged.

Among the projects inaugurated by Governor Okowa on Friday were the newly-constructed roads in Sapele and Ethiope West LGAs, the Oghara Modern Market in Oghara as well as the Ogini Grammar School, Ogharefe, Oghara.

Okowa, who could not hide his delight at the school project, hinted that it was inherited from his predecessors.

“Every good project started by our predecessors, that is, former Governor James Ibori and former Governor Emmanuel Uduaghan would be completed by this administration,” he quipped.

He, however, mooted the idea of changing the name of the school to Ogini Model College, charging the visibly elated students of the institution to take their academic pursuits seriously by studying hard to attain excellence.
