A total of 13 COVID-19 patients in Bauchi State have been discharged after testing negative to the virus.
Also, as of Tuesday 12th May, Tribune Online gathered that the state recorded eight new positive cases making it a total of 164 active cases who are receiving treatment at health facilities in Bauchi and Azare.
While confirming the development in a telephone interview, a member of the State Rapid Response Taskforce on COVID-19 and Lassa Fever, Dr Rilwanu Mohammed expressed his happiness saying that the state is gradually winning the battle on the treatment of COVID-19.
Rilwanu Mohammed who is Chairman, subcommittee on surveillance and contact tracing explained that the new system of certification and discharge of the patients will expedite their being discharge the moment they test negative to COVID-19.
He said that “it used to be two negative testings before discharge but now it is once having discovered that none of the patients earlier discharged COVID-19 patients have exhibited the symptoms again, this is a new development”.
An excited Rilwanu Mohammed added that “in sha Allah, in the next few days we expect to discharge about 40 more patients who have been treated. We have taken their samples for status testing and by tomorrow or next, the results will come in and we are sure that if not all, a majority will return negative and be discharged after certification to be COVID-19 free”.
On the situation in Azare, he said that it has been brought under control saying, “you know that we have totally locked down the area, we have opened up more facilities to curtail the spread of the COVID-19 virus”.
He added that, “we have mobilised to the area now, we are embarking on contact tracing, sensitisation and fumigation of the entire area. We are also going from house to house to fish out those suspected to be symptomatic of the COVID-19 virus. We are doing everything possible to get the area COVID-19 virus-free”.
Rilwanu Mohammed then called on the people to continue to adhere strictly to all the prescribed public health protocols put in place to avoid infection and stay safe.
