Court sentences 30-year-old woman to 18 months imprisonment for stealing electronics, others in Osun

A-30-year-old woman, Toyin Akinyemi was on Wednesday sentenced to 18 months imprisonment by the Osun State Magistrate court sitting in Ile-Ife for stealing jewellery, perfume and electronics.

Toyin said to have broken into the house of one AbdulHammed Toheeb to steal one Hisense plasma TV valued at N72,000; one industrial machine cost N105,000 and wristwatch valued at N70,000 on the 28th of May,2021 at Modomo area of Ile-Ife.

Other items stolen by her, according to the police prosecutor, Inspector Sunday Osanyintuyi were a box of jewellery, valued at N50,000, a small collection of perfume valued at N4,000; a pair of sandals valued at N15,000 and a power bank valued at N17,000.

The police prosecutor told the court that, the offence contravenes sections 383, 390(9), 411 and 412 of the Criminal Code, Laws of Osun, 2002.

Toyin however, pleaded guilty to the offence of burglary and stealing of the properties of one Abdul Hammed Toheeb.

In her judgement, Magistrate Bose Idowu sentenced Toyin to 18 months imprisonment without an option.

The magistrate said the judgement will serve as a deterrent to others who might want to get themselves involved in untoward acts.
