Court remands dismissed police officer over alleged killing of teenager

A Yaba Chief Magistrate Court has remanded a dismissed Police officer, Sergeant Samuel Philips in prison custody for allegedly murdering a teenager, at her home.

Chief Magistrate Mrs Adeola Adedayo gave the remand order pending legal advice from the Directorate of Public Prosecution.

The accused whose residential address was not given, was charged before the court on a one-count charge of murder preferred against him by the Police.

The Prosecutor Inspector Agustine Nwabuisi told the court that the defendant committed the alleged offence on September 10, 2021.

He said that the incident took place at about 11:30 pm, at 5, Mogaji Street, in the Ijeshatedo area of Lagos State.

Mr Nwabuisi said that Philips whilst in a criminal raid operation unlawfully released a gunshot into the house which unfortunately hit 18 years old, Monsurat Ojuade.

According to him, the offence committed is punishable under Section 223 of the criminal law of Lagos State 2015.

After entertaining the submission of counsel, the court adjourned the case till October 25, for DPP’s advice.

Meanwhile, the Police Public relations officer, Lagos State Command CSP Adekunle Ajisebutu, in a statement, said that the killer cop was dismissed from the Police Force after the conclusion of his orderly room trial.
