A suspected kidnappers’ informant, Abubakar Alhassan, has been remanded at the Yola Correctional Custody by a Chief Magistrate Court sitting in Yola presided over by Chief Magistrate Japhet Ibrahim Basani.

The informant was arraigned on a two-count charge of conspiracy and giving information to kidnappers.

The charge Y/724c2/2021 reads that “Abubakar Alhassan conspired with some kidnappers now at large by giving information about three people, Alhaji Yenusa, Alhaji Sani and Alhaji salleh all based in Bali and Baruga to be kidnapped.”

When the charge was read to the defendant, he pleaded guilty to the charge.

The defendant further said he gave information to the kidnappers about other persons.

“I have given information about six people that were kidnapped at different times. Each time I give information and the victim is kidnapped, I get between N30,000 – N40,000.

“The kidnappers that I used to give information to are Kachalla, Yenusa and Musa all of them are based in Bali and Baruga in Taraba State. The last time I gave them information, they (the kidnappers) got N4 million and they gave me N40,000 only.”

The defendant who is from Yobe State but based in Bali, Taraba State was arrested in Numan, Adamama State by a local vigilante group.

The defendant told journalists that he left Bali because it was no longer safe for people like him after the Emir promised to deal with anyone that has anything to do with kidnappers in his domain.

The court adjourned the case to September 27, 2021 for the prosecution to give the facts of the case before sentencing.
